Jenkins Point By: Curtis Phillips
Artist Curtis Phillips was born in Columbia,S.C in 1968 where his artistic endeavors began. From an early age,he excelled at painting and drawing. Throughout his childhood he was enrolled in various art and piano classes. Upon graduation, he enlisted at the University of South Carolina and subsequently recieved a bachelor of arts degree. While attending art classes,he learned printmaking from Boyd Saunders. After college, Phillips took portrait lessons from Ted Gorka, a nationally renowned portrait painter known for the portrayal of the Mormon church. Deciding that some changes were necessary, he decided to move to Los Angeles to further his career. After one year, the artist moved back to South Carolina and eventually taught one year at a public school. It was at this time that he moved to New York city."I learned more there in the seven months I stayed than at any other time in my career. Both cities have had a profound impact on my work." Phillips currently resides in Charleston, South Carolina. His artwork can be found in public and private collections throughout the United States.
